Early Life and Education

<p>
Born on March 5, 1937 in Gagalangin, Tondo, Manila to Dominador Tinio and Marciana Santos, Tinio displayed a passion for the arts from a young age. He was fond of organizing and directing his playmates for costumed celebrations. Tinio graduated magna cum laude, with a degree in Philosophy from the University of Santo Tomas at the age of 18 in 1955. He later earned an Masters in Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing: Poetry from the University of Iowa.

Career and Contributions
</h4>
<p>
From 1958 to 1975, Rolando Tinio taught English, Filipino, and Theater Arts at Ateneo de Manila University. 
</p>
<p>
Tinio was an active participant in the Filipino movie industry and enjoyed working with Philippine celebrities. He himself became a film actor and scriptwriter. His work in the theater was particularly notable. He staged, organized, and administrated productions for the Ateneo Experimental Theater.
