Domingo, a Chinese Filipino mestizo, was born on February 12, 1796, in Tondo, Manila.  He began his career as a painter specializing in miniature portraits and religious imagery. His talent for creating lifelike miniatures on ivory, often using just five Chinese sable brushes, some equipped with only a single bristle, made him one of the most sought-after artists of his time.

Contribution to Art

In 1821, Domingo took a significant step towards making art more accessible by establishing a school for artists in his residence in Tondo. This was a major leap for the discipline in the Philippines, marking the birth of the first official Philippine art academy.
