Early Life and Education

<p>
Born on <time datetime="1888-01-16">January 16, 1888</time>, in Carmen, Cebu, Cuenco was the son of Mariano Albao Cuenco and Remedios Lopez Diosomito. He pursued his early education at the <a href="https://kahimyang.com/articles/2964/the-history-of-the-university-of-san-carlos-of-cebu" class="news_link">Colegio de San Carlos</a> in Cebu, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1904. He later studied law at the Escuela de Derecho (which later became the Manila Law School) and passed the bar examinations in 1913.

Political Career
</h2>
<p>
Cuenco's political career began in 1912 when he was elected to the Philippine Assembly representing the fifth district of Cebu. He served in this capacity until 1928. In 1931, he was elected Governor of Cebu and later became the President of the League of Provincial Governors of the Philippines. His political journey continued as he was elected delegate to the Constitutional Convention in 1934, where he served as the floor leader.
