Early Life and Education

<p>
Kennon was born on September 2, 1858 in Providence, Rhode Island, and later moved to New York City after his father's death during the American Civil War. He was admitted to the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1876, graduating in 1881 despite a one-year suspension for hazing. He furthered his education at the United States Army War College, graduating in 1910.

Kennon arrived in the Philippines on October 9, 1899, during the <a href="https://kahimyang.com/kauswagan/articles/913/today-in-philippine-history-february-4-1899-marked-the-start-of-the-filipino-american-war" class="news_link">Philippine-American War</a>. He participated in various military actions, showcasing his leadership and strategic skills. His presence in the Philippines was marked by his dedication to both military and civil engineering projects.
