Early Life and Career
</h4>
<p>
Morato was born on July 4, 1887 to Francisco Morato, a ship captain, and Josefa Bernabeu Ferrer. His family moved to the Philippines in 1898, where he formed friendship with <a href="https://kahimyang.com/kauswagan/articles/1265/today-in-philippine-history-august-19-1878-manuel-quezon-was-born-in-baler-aurora" class="news_link">Manuel L. Quezon</a>, who would later become the second President of the Philippines. Tommy, as Quezon called him, was one of the very few people who could enter <a href="https://kahimyang.com/kauswagan/articles/2851/history-of-malaca-ang-palace-the-official-residence-and-principal-workplace-of-the-president-of-the-philippines" class="news_link">Malacañang Palace</a> at all times.

Morato pursued an engineering course and ventured into the lumber industry, where he accumulated significant wealth.

Political Career
</h4>
<p>
Morato's political career began in Calauag, Tayabas (now the province of Quezon), where he served as mayor from 1934 to 1938. His close friendship with President Quezon led to his appointment as the first mayor of Quezon City in 1939. During his tenure he focused on urban planning and development, laying the groundwork for what would become one of the Philippines' most important cities.

Tomas Morato Quezon City's first Mayor was born July 4, 1887 in Alicante, Spain
