Born on September 24, 1708 in Tula, Mexico, Rojo del Río was a Spanish Criollo. He was consecrated as the Archbishop of Manila on January 29, 1748. His ecclesiastical career was marked by his dedication to the Roman Catholic Church and his leadership within the Archdiocese of Manila.

Governorship and the British Occupation
</h4>

In 1761, a royal decree from Spain appointed Rojo del Río as the Governor-General of the Philippines, succeeding Bishop <a href="https://kahimyang.com/kauswagan/articles/2801/today-in-philippine-history-june-1-1759-miguel-lino-de-ezpeleta-became-the-45th-spanish-governor-general-of-the-philippines" class="news_link">Miguel Lino de Ezpeleta</a>. His tenure as Governor-General coincided with the British occupation of Manila from 1762 to 1764, a significant event during the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Years%27_War" class="news-link-ext" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer">Seven Years' War</a>.
