Early Life and Education

Born on January 1, 1893 in Mandaue, Cebu, Manuel was the son of Pedro Cabahug and Apolonia Briones. Following his mother's death, Manuel and his brother were placed under the care of Apolonia's brother, a Catholic priest in Borbon, Cebu. During this period, their surnames were changed to Briones.

After his years of academic preparation, he embarked on a career in journalism, eventually becoming the editor of "La Tribuna" and "El Espectador", Cebu newspapers published in Spanish. 
</p>

Briones then pursued his legal studies with dedication and passion, completing his law degree and becoming a member of the Philippine Bar in 1916. His early career in politics was distinguished by a strong commitment to justice and public service, laying the groundwork for his future accomplishments.
