The Life and Legacy of Hadji Butu

Hadji Butu, born Abd ul-Bagui Butu Rasul in 1865 in Jolo, Sulu Sultanate, was a prominent Filipino statesman, politician, and senator during the early 20th century. He was a descendant of Mantiri Asip, a minister of the Sumatran-born prince Raja Baginda, who helped spread Islam to the Sulu Archipelago in 1390.
