Early Life and Education

<p>
From a young age, Hadji Butu displayed exceptional intellectuality. By the age of ten, he was proficient in both Arabic and the Koran. At sixteen, he was appointed as the prime minister to Sultan Badar ud-Din II, and the following year, he accompanied the Sultan on his pilgrimage to Mecca, earning the title of Hadji.

Political Career
</h4>

Hadji Butu's political career began during the turbulent times of the Spanish colonization of the Philippines. He played a significant role in the resistance against Spanish rule. In 1884 Sultan Badarud Din II died and the sultanate was plunged into the maelstrom of civil war waged by rival claimants to the vacant throne.  Hadji Butu supported the claims to succession of the half-brother of the deceased sultan, Raja Muda Amir ul-Kiram, against other claimants.
