He was a great-grandson of a Bruneian sultan, tracing his lineage through his mother's side, and a distant descendant of Caliph Hasan ibn Ali, according to oral traditions preserved among his kin. After the death of Sulayman's only son, Rajang Bago, during the early Spanish conquest of Luzon, Sulayman adopted Agustin as his own, securing his place in the royal hierarchy. This adoption tied Agustin to both Maynila and Tondo, neighboring polities with deep cultural and political connections.
