Early Life and Roots in Journalism

Growing up in a flood-prone area of Malabon, Legarda witnessed the harsh realities of environmental challenges early on. Her childhood was filled with simple joys, like climbing mango trees and playing with beetles, but also shaped by a family legacy of service. Her grandfather, Jose P. Bautista, was a pillar of Philippine journalism, and her great-grandfather, Potenciano Cabrera, served as the first mayor of San Pablo City, Laguna. This heritage inspired Legarda to pursue a career in broadcast journalism, a field where she would shine for over two decades.

Loren completed her education at Assumption College, attending from primary school through high school. In 1981, she graduated cum laude from the <a href="https://kahimyang.com/kauswagan/articles/1188/today-in-philippine-history-june-18-1908-the-university-of-the-philippines-was-established" class="news_link">University of the Philippines</a> Diliman with a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Communications and served as President of the UP Broadcast Association. She later pursued post-graduate studies in journalism at the University of California, Los Angeles
