Early Life and Education

Quintín Paredes was born on September 9, 1884 to Don Juan Félix Paredes y Pe Benito, a schoolmaster who founded the Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion in Bangued, and Regine Babila, the daughter of an <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Itneg_people" class="news-link-ext" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer">Itneg</a> tribal leader. Growing up in a region marked by cultural diversity, Paredes developed an early appreciation for education and community. His elementary education began at his father's school, followed by studies at the Colegio Seminario de Vigan and the prestigious <a href="https://kahimyang.com/kauswagan/articles/2884/the-history-of-colegio-de-san-juan-de-letran" class="news_link">Colegio de San Juan de Letran</a> in Manila.

During the Philippine-American War (1899–1902), Paredes' teenage years were shaped by the conflict. American prisoners lodged with his family taught him English, a skill that proved invaluable in his later career. After the war, he worked as a court interpreter, stenographer, and assistant provincial treasurer in Abra in 1902, saving money to pursue higher education. 
Paredes enrolled at the Escuela de Derecho de Manila (some sources suggest he was mentored by his brother Isidro, a judge), graduating in 1907. That same year, he passed the bar examination, one of only four out of 70 candidates to succeed, launching his legal career with distinction.
