Andres dela Rosa Narvasa was born on November 30, 1928, in Manila, Philippines, during a time when the country was under American administration. He came from a family that valued education and public service; his father, Gregorio Narvasa, and mother, Esperanza dela Rosa Narvasa, instilled in him a strong sense of discipline and intellect. As a young boy, Narvasa demonstrated exceptional academic prowess. He completed his elementary education at <a href="https://kahimyang.com/kauswagan/articles/2884/the-history-of-colegio-de-san-juan-de-letran" class="news_link">Colegio de San Juan de Letran</a> in 1938, graduating as salutatorian, and his secondary education at Arellano High School in 1945, where he was valedictorian. These early achievements foreshadowed his lifelong dedication to excellence.

Narvasa's higher education further solidified his reputation as a scholar. He pursued his Bachelor of Laws at the  <a href="https://kahimyang.com/articles/3223/a-historical-account-of-the-university-of-santo-tomas-a-chronicle-of-resilience-scholarship-and-national-identity" class="news_link">University of Santo Tomas</a> (UST) Faculty of Civil Law, graduating magna cum laude in 1951. That same year, he placed second in the Philippine Bar Examinations with an impressive rating of 91.6%, a testament to his legal acumen. Beyond academics, Narvasa was an accomplished athlete, captaining the UST Intramural Basketball Team, embodying the ideal of a sound mind in a sound body. Later in life, he received honorary Doctor of Laws degrees from <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pamantasan_ng_Lungsod_ng_Maynila" class="news-link-ext" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer">Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila</a> (1992), UST (1992), and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angeles_University_Foundation" class="news-link-ext" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer">Angeles University Foundation</a> (1993), recognizing his contributions to legal education and practice.

Legal Career and Academia
</h3>

Narvasa's professional journey began in 1952 when he established Andres R. Narvasa & Associates, a private law firm where he honed his skills as a practitioner. However, his passion for teaching drew him to academia. He joined the UST Faculty of Civil Law as a professor in 1952, becoming a bar reviewer in 1959 and eventually serving as dean from 1967 to 1973. During this period, he also held key administrative roles at UST, including vice-rector for student affairs (1969-1972), member of the board of trustees (1974), and president of the Faculty Club (1969). As dean, Narvasa reformed legal education, emphasizing practical skills and ethical standards, which influenced generations of lawyers.
