Harry Hill Bandholtz: The American Army Officer Who Orchestrated Macario Sakay's Downfall

Harry Hill Bandholtz was born on December 18, 1864, in Constantine, Michigan, to Christian Johan Bandholtz, an emigrant from Schleswig-Holstein who worked as a harness maker, and Elizabeth Hill, a milliner. After graduating from high school in 1881, Bandholtz initially worked as a billing clerk and later as a bookkeeper in Chicago, where he also joined the National Guard of the United States.
