The genesis of BINI is rooted in a strategic initiative by the media conglomerate <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ABS-CBN" class="news-link-ext" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer">ABS-CBN</a> to create a globally competitive Filipino idol group. Launched in 2018, the <b class="lt-bold">Star Hunt Academy</b> (SHA) was designed as a holistic training ground for young talent, drawing inspiration from the rigorous "idol" systems of South Korea while maintaining a focus on Filipino character. The selection process began with an initial pool of approximately 250 auditionees, aged 16 to 19, hailing from diverse regions across the Philippines and overseas.

The 250 hopefuls were initially narrowed to 50, then to a specialized group of 12 trainees, and finally to the eight members who would form the official lineup. While the original intention was to debut a nine-member ensemble, the final selection was refined to eight: Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena.

The training regimen, which spanned three years from 2019 to 2020, was exhaustive and designed to produce well-rounded performers. The curriculum was not limited to music and dance; it incorporated a broad spectrum of personal and professional development modules. Trainees participated in performance arts classes, fitness and nutrition programs, and personality development workshops. Mental health was also a priority, with regular counseling and life coaching sessions integrated into the weekly schedule to prepare the young women for the psychological demands of fame.

Technical training was overseen by a hybrid team of Filipino and international experts. Vocal coaching was led by <b class="lt-bold">Kitchy Molina</b>, a renowned figure in Philippine music education and former chair of the Department of Voice, Music Theater, and Dance at the <a href="https://kahimyang.com/kauswagan/articles/1188/today-in-philippine-history-june-18-1908-the-university-of-the-philippines-was-established" class="news_link">University of the Philippines</a> College of Music. Dance instruction was provided by Austrian-born coach <b class="lt-bold">Mickey Perz</b> and South Korean professionals from the MU Doctor Academy. Perz's training philosophy was notably rigorous, treating the members as "athletes rather than musicians" to ensure they possessed the stamina required for the high-intensity choreography characteristic of modern P-pop.
