December 25, 1898: General Miller left Manila for Iloilo with orders to occupy the city

On December 25, 1898, General Marcus P. Miller left Manila for Iloilo, arrived there on December 29, for the purpose of effecting an armed occupation of the port city in the name of the United States. The native government, which had succeeded peacefully the Spanish government in the city, refused after 5 days' consideration of the matter to surrender the place without resistance.
