172 new cases of HIV reported in March

QUEZON CITY, Philippines May 10 (PIA) --- The number of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in the Philippines continues to rise with 172 new cases reported to the Department of Health (DOH) this March.

In an interview with Lyndon Lee Suy, director of DOH center for disease prevention and control at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) office today, he said that based on the latest data from the department, it shows an increase in number of infected people this year compared from the previous years.

Suy says that the increase in the number of HIV cases can be attributed to improve surveillance system being implemented by DOH and the agency’s advocacy and awareness campaign against the disease.
