<p>
It was named after Cecil Lloyd (1910-1988) who is considered 

the Father of the Philippine Recording Industry.
</p>
<p>
Cecil Lloyd started singing on radio in 1930. He was featured as the "Mystery Singer" on KZRM in 1934. His first recorded Tagalog compositions were 

<i>"Ikaw"</i> and <i>"Buhat"</i> in 1939.  
</p>
<p>
In 1948, he established the first Filipino-owned record company, the Philippine Recording System, which 

featured his renditions of Filipino folk songs among them the <i>"Lavandera Ko"</i> (1942) which is a composition of Santiago S. Suarez. 
</p>

Lloyd was also a lawyer, he finished law  degree at the University of the Philippines in 1936.
