Passing the CSE results in the conferment of corresponding Professional or Sub-Professional civil service eligibility, one of the basic requirements for permanent appointment to government career service positions, except those that involve practice of profession or are covered by special laws.


CSC said the Professional examination is a three-hour test that covers 150 questions itemized into the following subject areas:


Verbal (40 items) – vocabulary, sentence completion, error recognition, sentence structure, paragraph organization and reading comprehension; Analytical (50 items) – word analogy, identifying assumptions, drawing conclusions and data interpretation; and Numerical (40 items) – number sequence, basic operations and word problems.


The two and a half-hour Sub-Professional examination covers Verbal (45 items) and Numerical (40 items) subject areas and, in addition, Clerical (40 items) skills.


Both examination levels have 20 items each of General Information questions on the Philippine Constitution, the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees (R.A. 6713), human rights issues and concepts, and environment management and protection.
