August 8, 1901: the Philippine Constabulary was organized
On , the American colonial government in the Philippines formally organized the Insular Constabulary - soon renamed the Philippine Constabulary (PC) - a new national police force meant to keep peace in a country still smoldering from three years of war. Captain Henry T. Allen of the 6th U.S. Cavalry was named its first Chief, a role that would later earn him the title "Father of the Philippine Constabulary." What began as a lightly armed provincial gendarmerie would go on to serve as the Philippines' primary national police and paramilitary force for the next ninety years, until its absorption into the Philippine National Police in .
