Metro-wide ban on smoking to start Monday
THE Metro Manila Development Authority on Monday will start arresting smokers on major and secondary roads, inside public utility vehicles, and even at bus and jeepney stops.
Chairman Francis Tolentino announced the crackdown against smoking in public places in partnership with health and environmental sanitation officers of the metro’s 17 localities.
He invoked Section 5 of Republic Act 9211 of 2003, or An Act Regulating the Packaging, Use, Sale Distribution and Advertisements of Tobacco Produces and For Other Purposes, and the anti-smoking drive of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and local ordinances.
