China denies incursions into RP waters; renaming South China Sea proposed
China has rejected allegations of illegal incursions into Philippine territory within the South China Sea.
According to the Philippine government, Chinese naval vessels allegedly unloaded building materials and installed a number of posts and a buoy last month near the Iroquois Reef and Amy Douglas Bank. Both are within the Philippine territory near the contentious Spratlys Islands.
Countries including Brunei, China, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, and Vietnam are claiming all or part of the Spratlys Island which is said to be rich in oil reserves.
“The reported 'incursion of Chinese ships' is not true,” said Chinese Embassy in Manila spokesperson Michelle Zhao.
Zhao added that China holds a clear and consistent position on the South China Sea issue.
