Francisco del Castillo and the 19 Martyrs of Aklan
When a fierce revolution swept over the country during the last decade of the nineteenth century, it claimed the lives of several thousand men. Aklan then a section in Capiz, played its part, offering the lives of some hundreds of its sons. In memory of those Aklanons who fell, the town of Kalibo, in Aklan, has erected a modest mausoleum to contain their remains. To their first leader to fall, General Francisco del Castillo, an equestrian statue has been raised in a plaza of this town.
