Proposed Northern Samar provincial ordinance on coco levy set for public hearing

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, June 17 (PIA) – The provincial government of Northern Samar has a proposed ordinance imposing a levy for the entry and exit of raw coconut products in the province.

The proposed ordinance has drawn protests from a group of coconut oil millers in the country as it fear negative impacts on oil millers and coconut farmers.

Under the proposed ordinance, fees ranging from P 0.25 to P 1.00 per kilo will be imposed on outgoing coconut raw materials such as coconut seedlings, whole nut, copra, coconut shell, coconut lumber, crude oil and desiccated coconut while incoming raw materials will be imposed fees ranging from P 0.20 to P 1.50 per kilo.
