September 21, 1944: President Laurel declared Martial Law throughout the entire country

On September 21, 1944, President Jose P. Laurel, following the bombing of Davao on September 18, 1944, by the returning Allied forces, issued proclamation #29, placing the entire country under Martial Law and suspended the privileges of the writ of habeas corpus. Laurel also declared that a state of war existed between the Philippines and the United States and Great Britain through Proclamation #30 issued the next day, September 22, 1944.
