As of press time, only one lane of the highway is passable to traffic. District Engineer Gil Duarte of the DPWH Samar 1st District Engineering Office informed that one large rock with about 18 cubic size continue to block one lane of the road.


Engineer Duarte said the large rock was not yet removed as this will serve as a barrier to the remaining boulders which are just about to fall anytime due to continuous rains in the area.


The District Engineer added that he immediately deployed the maintenance crew of the DPWH to conducted clearing operations as soon as he learned about the rockslide incident.


The maintenance crew have also been deployed to provide the needed assistance to commuters in the said area.


The DPWH called on the commuters passing the said road to take precautionary measures especially during this time of continuous rains.


At 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon of July 4, PAGASA reported a Low Pressure Area (LPA) which was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 790 km East of Samar (11.0°N, 133.8°E) embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.


PAGASA forecast at 5:00 o’clock in the afternoon of July 4 stated that Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over the Eastern sections which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. The rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.


Light to moderate winds blowing from the East to Southeast will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon and coming from the Southwest to Southeast over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.(PIA 8)
