The Marcoses and about 20 of their followers moved from the base on the evening of this day, it was unclear how many of the entourage remained with them, said a Secret Service agent at the gate, who declined to give his name.

A crowd gathered in the rain outside the house that became Marcos's latest haven a month almost to the day after his February 26 arrival in Hawaii.

The couple were spirited from Hickam to the house to avoid the large crowds that have gathered on other occasions when it appeared likely they were moving.

The $1.5 million home, owned by  Pflueger, was vacated in January of 1986 by Robert Z. Rostron, a Hawaii business executive who was staying there, said Monica Rapada, whose husband, Francisco, served as Rostron's caretaker.

Mrs. Rapada said the estate was a big house, nice and quiet, with a large porch that looks out over the beach and giving a good view of the ocean and Koko Head crater, a rock promontory and distinctive island landmark.

The grey house has four big bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, a living room, dining room, family room and a three-car garage, she said.
</p>
<p>
The property is enclosed on the Kalanianaole Highway side by a concrete wall. She said there are big mango trees, two coconut trees and a larbe banyan tree on the ocean side of the house. Also on the highway side is a cottage where Mrs. Rapada and her husband lived.

Rob Rishmawy, a neighbor, said:

"I just hope they don't close the beaches."

James Hannaman, who lives next door, said he preferred not to comment about his feelings.  He said:

"The only disruption that I've experenced has been all the newsmen and television cameramen who have been coming across my property without permission.  That can get a bit bothersome."

The agent was asked if the home, set back just 25 feet from the heavily travelled four-lane highway, would provide adequate security. He said:

"We'll just have to wait and see, I guess."

<p>
After the Marcos party arrived in Hawaii, speculation about where they would move focused on two Makiki Heights homes owned by wealthy associates. The party later considered an isolated estate in Manoa Valley, and a home in the Waialae-Kahala area rented by Marcos' daughter, Irene, but apparently were deterred by publicity.
