Sometime in March 2013, Noynoy visited a site in Corregidor where the purported Jabidah massacre took place to celebrate what should have been the 45th anniversary of the event that his father, former Senator Ninoy Aquino, blew the lid off in a privilege speech in 1968.
</p>
<p>
The massacre purportedly happened 10 days before Ninoy exposed it.
</p>
<p>
The Jabidah massacre is an urban legend, however.
</p>
<p>
The story, as related by Ninoy in his speech, was that about 200 Tausug and Sama Muslims were trained as part of Operation Merdeka, the objective of which was to sow trouble in Sabah and ultimately reclaim the territory from Malaysia.
</p>

<p>
Ninoy recounted the murder of the members of the operation supposedly after the Tausugs, who made up the core of the commando unit, rebelled on learning that they would be fighting against fellow Muslims.
</p>


<p>
The massacre was never proven as none of the relatives of the 200 Tausugs ever came out in the open to prove it really happened nor did anybody file any claims for compensation or sued the government for it.
</p>
<p>
Ninoy's exposé supposedly led Nur Misuari to form the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), which was suspected to have been funded by Malaysia, including the training of the group's commanders in Sabah in retaliation to the supposed Marcos offensive.
</p>
<p>
The Malaysians wanted to give Marcos a dose of his own medicine by funding the secessionist movement that nearly dismembered Mindanao and resulted ultimately in the creation of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), which is now the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.
</p>
<p>
Noynoy in all gullibility resurrected the myth of the massacre, which apparently his senator father, instigated by a foreign power, exposed to scuttle the reclaim Sabah campaign of Marcos.
Former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, now 96, insists the Jabidah massacre was fabricated by Ninoy to destabilize the Marcos administration.

Enrile said, referring to the groups behind Ninoy:

"They invented the Jabidah massacre. I say invented because until now, I have not heard of anyone who complained about anybody being massacred in Corregidor. No one.  The only one who appeared as a member of the supposedly Muslim training in Corregidor was that fellow who swam across Corregidor to Cavite, which was the invention of Montano and Ninoy Aquino."

Then Cavite Governor Delfin Montano, a bitter political foe of Marcos, took in the supposed lone survivor of the massacre, Jibin Arula.
</p>
<p>
The mythical massacre was apparently part of a familiar scheme of the Liberal Party (LP) to remove Marcos and raise the profile of Ninoy as an alternative candidate.
</p>
<p>
Also, part of the yellow push was a coalition formed between the LP and the Communist Party of the Philippines.
Enrile said the formation of the alliance was the last straw, and the former president placed the entire country under martial law in 1972.  Enrile recounted:

"One of the reasons why President Marcos finally declared martial law was because there was already a working coalition between the LP and the NPA (New People's Army), the new communist party headed by (Jose Maria) Sison at that point."

"I met with Ninoy Aquino in the house of Ramon Silay. Paul Aquino was still alive. He was present in that meeting. He was the one who reported to me that he had a meeting with the leadership of the communist party. They were discussing a coalition government."
