M7.1 quake jolts northeastern Japan, tsunami warning issued

TOKY0, July 10 (Xinhua) -- A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 jolted northeastern Japan Sunday morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

A tsunami warning was issued for Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the 9:57 a.m. quake, which registered 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in inland areas of northern Iwate Prefecture, across Miyagi Prefecture and parts of Fukushima Prefecture.
