Polish-US missile defence agreement

This missile defence agreement is part of a larger US missile defence system in Europe that will be expanded to Romania in 2015. On September 15, the Polish-US missile agreement entered into force, allowing the US to place land-based interceptors on a Polish military base. In 2010, a protocol was signed between US Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton and Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikorski setting the foundation of this agreement and announcing that the Polish base will become operational in 2018. One of the conditions to this agreement was the upgrade of the Polish air defence system. The US accepted to hand over Patriot missile batteries and is already conducting a number of training programmes for Polish air defence units.
