It became an independent body in 1919 and had its first site on a building at Avenida Rizal St., Manila. It was used as a temporary shelter to indigent aged widows and orphans.  Services to care of babies and small children were also  extended.

In 1925,  its permanent site was established at 815 Canonigo St. Paco, Manila, now known as 1451 Pres. Quirino Ave., Paco, Manila.

The settlement was razed by fire on December 3, 1998, resulting in the death of 23 children and five house parents. It was restored immediately through the benevolence of President <a href="https://kahimyang.com/kauswagan/articles/1078/today-in-philippine-history-april-19-1937-erap-estrada-was-born-in-tondo-manila" class="news_link">Joseph Estrada</a> and inaugurated on February 14, 1999.
