Andres Bonifacio's idea of expanding the membership of the Katipunan (founded on July 7, 1892 aimed at liberating the country from the tyranny of the Spaniards) led him to the formation of Women's Chapter knowing that the strength of a society such as those of Katipuan lay in numbers.
</p>

In the middle of 1893, Bonifacio opened the door of the society to patriotic and scrupulous women who had the virtue to keep their tongues in place -- limited the membership to the wives, daughters, and sisters of the male members.
</p>

Thus, Marina was accompanied by her cousin Emilio Jacinto to the house of Don Restituto Javier. There in the presence of Gregoria de Jesus, the young wife of Bonifacio, Josefa and Trinidad Rizal and their nieces, Angelica Lopez and Delfina Herbosa, she was initiated into the Katipunan.

Accordingly, while the men were holding meeting in the backroom, the women, in order to draw away the suspicion of the authorities, danced and sang in the sala in full view of the passersby. Thus, women acted as a front from the clandestine goings-on of the Katipuneros.
</p>

She bribed the guards of her husband in order to visit him in jail. This was made possible by selling her valuables to raise bribe money. Her husband was released on September 11, 1897.
</p>
<p>
Dizon was widowed during the Second World War. In the twilight years of her life, she lived with her unmarried daughter in Caloocan. 
</p>
<p>
Marina Dizon, daughter of Jose Dizon, one of the 13 martyrs Bagumbayan, was born on July 18,1875.
</p>
