<p>
He served as director of the Manila Observatory and was the founder of the first Philippine Weather Bureau during the American period. 
</p>
<p>
The weather bureau was first established in 1865 by Father F. Faura, Father Nonell and Father Ricart, all instructors of physical science at the Ateneo.  From Georgetown University Father Algue came to Manila in 1894 to assist Father Faura,  then head of the weather bureau. 
</p>
<p>
During the revolution, Father Faura died and Father Algue succeeded him to the office.
</P>

<p>
In 1925, Father Algue resigned because of his venerable age.  He was succeeded by the younger Father Selga.
</p>

<p>
Father Algue was known for his invention of the barocyclonometer, his improvement of Faura's barometer. He perfected the device in 1897.
