First you need to have a computer with either a DVD drive or Blu ray drive depending on the disk you want to rip. You 

will also need the following software. Don't worry they are all legally free.

MakeMKV. A utility to rip your movie. Download it <a href="http://www.makemkv.com/download/" target="_blank" 

class="news_link">here</a> if you don't have it already.

Handbrake. Proccesses your ripped movie file into a format playable in your smartphone (MKV or MP4). Download it <a 

href="http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php" target="_blank" class="news_link">here</a>.
</li>
</ul>


Insert your disk into your drive and run MakeMKV. 

Click on the read button as highlighed below. This will read and decrypt your disk.

Select output destination at (1) below. Click on (2) to expand the tree component.

Deselect tracks that you don't need, as shown in (1) below. I deselected all except the main movie, sound 

tracks of main movie and 1 movie subtitle. As shown in the graphic, there is no specific label for the main movie title 

but it easy to tell because the main movie always comes with several chapters.

Most movies have several audio tracks. Here I have selected 2 tracks, the DD (Dolby) track and DTS track which are both 

5.1 surround audio track, this will be downmixed to 2 channels later by Handbrake. Usually 1 audio track is enough and 

based on experience DD tracks ofen have less problems with Handbrake 

than DTS tracks. The movie shown is a DVD movie. The figure above is slightly different on a Blu ray disk. Audio 

tracks on Blu 

ray may include HD audio. Please avoid using HD audio as they make for a large file.


When you are done with your selections, click "Make MKV" button to start the rip. Rip takes sometime depending on 

the speed of your drive and your computer.




When MakeMKV is done and successful, open Handbrake and locate movie file output of MakeMKV. Your screen should appear 

like below. First select where you want to store the ouput file (1). If you are processing for Andriod select Universal 

(2) or (3) for Iphone. This will set resolution of your movie output. Click on (5) video tab.

Bitrate of a movie file determines the size and quality of movie playback. The higher the number, the better 

the quality but the resulting file is larger. For handheld video applications like your Andriod or Iphone a low number 

of 1500 - 2000 kpbs would still result in a good picture quality. Input a number in (1) below.

Click on (2) start processing. This process will some time. When you are done, use your phone utility to transfer the 

final movie file to your phone.
