The Philippines do not have the class of opposition that can be worthy of a democracy
In a healthy democracy, the opposition performs an important role in policymaking and overall governance. Its members debate, challenge and offer alternatives during policymaking and execution of laws by the government of the day. The opposition also checks the conduct of those in power. In fact, democracy is often described as messy because of the opposition clashing with those at the helm of government, but the exercise has purpose. The political din should result in varying degrees of compromise that refine government work; perhaps even making it a bit more equitable and just.
