While Duterte did not initially provide a specific reason for her resignation, she later cited a combination of personal and professional issues. She mentioned that her decision was not born out of weakness but out of genuine concern for the teachers and the Filipino youth. Duterte's departure from the Department of Education (DepEd) came as a shock to many, given her relatively brief tenure and the significant role the position holds in shaping the future of education in the Philippines.

Duterte's resignation also signaled the end of the UniTeam political alliance that had won the 2022 elections in a landslide.  The alliance between the Marcos and Duterte families had been seen as a "marriage of convenience", and her departure from the Cabinet underscored the challenges in maintaining this partnership.
