Early Life and Education

Haydee Yorac was born on March 4, 1941, in Saravia (now E.B. Magalona), Negros Occidental, to Jose Yorac, a local mayor, and Josefa Bofill, a schoolteacher. Growing up in a small Visayan town, Yorac developed a strong sense of civic duty early on, influenced by her parents' dedication to public service. Her intellectual prowess became evident during her studies at the <a href="https://kahimyang.com/kauswagan/articles/1188/today-in-philippine-history-june-18-1908-the-university-of-the-philippines-was-established" class="news_link">University of the Philippines</a> (UP) Diliman, where she earned a Bachelor of Laws in 1962. She excelled in the 1962 Philippine Bar Examinations, placing 8th with an impressive rating of 86.95%. As a law student, she was a member of the Order of the Purple Feather, the UP College of Law's honor society, and was also affiliated with the UP Alpha Phi Omega sorority.

Yorac furthered her education at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, earning a Master of Laws in 1981 with a major in public international law and a minor in anthropology. Her academic achievements laid a strong foundation for her multifaceted career in law, education, and public service.
