<b>The "Independence Balcony":</b> Interestingly, the famous balcony seen on the front of the mansion today did not exist in 1898. During the original declaration, Aguinaldo read the proclamation from a grand window. He added the elaborate "Independence Balcony" during the 1919–1921 renovations to serve as a monument to that fateful day. Today, government officials still gather on this exact balcony every June 12 for the annual flag-raising ceremony.
