Early Life and Educational Foundations
</h2>
<p>
Unlike many military leaders of his era who received formal European tactical training, Garcia's background was in education. He studied at the prestigious <i>Escuela Normal de Maestros</i> in Manila under the direction of Jesuit educators, completing his teaching course in the early 1870s.

<p>
In 1875, Garcia took up a teaching position in Silang, Cavite. His background as an educator provided him with strong organizational skills, literacy, and leadership - qualities that would prove invaluable when the revolution erupted across Luzon in August 1896.

Outbreak of the 1896 Revolution & The Heroic Raid at Silang
</h2>
<p>
Driven by the nationalist movement, Garcia joined the <a href="/kauswagan/articles/906/about-the-katipunan" class="news_link">Katipunan</a> in 1896. When open hostilities against Spain began, he immediately laid down his chalk to take up arms.
</p>
<p>
Garcia quickly stood out for his audacity in battle:

<b>The Attack on Silang Fort (February 1897):</b> With only 30 men from Imus armed mostly with bolos, daggers, spears, and a handful of rifles, Garcia launched a daring assault on the Spanish garrison at Silang. Overrunning several enemy trenches, he secured a tactical victory against superior firepower.

<li>
<b>Promotion to Colonel:</b> Impressed by his courage and field tactical sense, General Emilio Aguinaldo immediately promoted Garcia to Colonel, marking the beginning of his rapid ascension in the revolutionary high command.
</li>
<li>
<b>Defense of Pasong Santol and Imus:</b> Garcia worked alongside Aguinaldo to draw up battle strategies for Pasong Santol and was entrusted with defending the strategic stronghold of Imus alongside General <a href="/articles/2960/baldomero-aguinaldo-a-prominent-figure-in-the-philippine-revolution-was-born-on-february-27-1869-in-cavite-el-viejo-cavite" class="news_link">Baldomero Aguinaldo</a>.

The Bonifacio Trial (April–May 1897)

<p>
Following the internal rift between the Magdalo and Magdiwang factions of the Katipunan and the controversial Tejeros Convention, Aguinaldo selected Garcia for a sensitive and grave assignment.

<b>Special Investigator:</b> Aguinaldo appointed Colonel Garcia as a "committee of one" (Special Judge) to conduct the initial official investigation into <i>Supremo</i> <a href="/articles/3326/andres-bonifacio-life-legacy-and-the-first-president" class="news_link">Andrés Bonifacio</a> and his brother <a href="/articles/3367/life-of-procopio-castro-bonifacio-philippine-revolutionary" class="news_link">Procopio</a> following their arrest in Limbon, Indang.

<li>
<b>Court-Martial & Recommendation:</b> Working alongside Major Lázaro Makapagal as secretary, Garcia interviewed witnesses and evaluated the evidence. In his final report, Garcia recommended that a court-martial - headed by General Mariano Noriel - be convened to try the brothers, and subsequently advised that the death penalty be imposed for sedition and treason.
